Introduction to 798 Art District

The 798 Art District or otherwise known as Dashanzi Art District in Beijing is a well known artistic community. The unique architectural appearance of the old military factory building sure does make this place a must visit site as it is Beijing’s main contemporary art gallery. In 2002 artists and artistic organizations decided to make use of the factory space and converted them into galleries and studios and over the years it developed into the 798 Art District.

To expand the influence of modern art, Beijing established the 798 Art Festival in 2006. The festival begins at the end of April and finishes and the end of May. There is also the Beijing 798 Creative Art Festival which is held in September and ends in October. Apart from holding its own art festival the 798 Art District also hosts events for art exhibitions, fashions shows and other artistic events.

Visitors travel from all over the world to catch a glimpse of the unique art culture and contemporary style of the art district. Apart from art lovers there are many world famous political leaders and royals who have paid a visit the art district.
