Introduction to Changling Tombs

Changling Tomb is located in Changping County which is 40 kilometers from Beijing. Changling Tomb is the tomb of the third emperor of the Ming Dynasty, Emperor Yongle (1402 to 1422). Changling Tomb is the most popular attraction of the Ming Tombs, the tomb is one of the three tombs which is opened to the public and is also the largest and of the most significance of the Ming Tombs. Buried along with the Emperor Yongle was his empress, Empress Xu. 

It is recorded that the construction of Changling Tomb began during the seventh year reign of Emperor Yongle and took 5 years for the tomb to be completed. Changling Tomb occupies a ground construction of 120,000 square meters making it the largest of the Ming Tombs. 

Main Attractions of Changling Tomb 

Ling En Gate
Ling En Gate is in the second courtyard of Changling Tomb. The gate is 31.4 meters wide and 14.57 meters in height. Ling En Gate has white marble railings that are carved with dragons and phoenixes. There are respectively three stone steps at front and at the back of the basement stone. 

Ling En Hall

Ling En Hall was a place of worship for the heirs of Emperor Yongle so they could make sacrifices for him. The building was based on a white marble pedestal paved with gold. The hall is 66.56 m wide and 29.12 meters in length. At the center of the hall is a copper statue of Emperor Yongle on the throne.

Travel Tips 

1.Do try to avoid visiting the Changling Tomb during the summer holidays and Golden Week in October as it will be extremely crowded.
