Introduction to Crown Cave (冠岩)

Crown Cave is one of the most famous karst caves in Guilin. It is located in Caoping Village, about 29 kilometers south of Guilin downtown at the east bank of Li River. The Crown Cave is actually an exit of an underground river which is connected with Li River. As a major tourist site along the Li River, Crown Cave is often visited by tourists going for Li River Cruise or hiking along the Li River.

Crown Cave got its present name as the hill it encloses is shaped in an imperial crown. The cave is also known as Sweet Cave because of the sweet and clear spring water running out from the cave. Crown Cave has a length 12 kilometers, but only three kilometers near the Li River is explored. 

The Crown Cave full of grotesque stalagmites, stalactites, and stone pillars in different shapes and postures offers an imposing fairyland with karst features. The cave is consisted of three parts with the top two parts are dried karst caves featured with typical karst landscapes of strange stalactites and stalagmites, and the bottom part being a giant subterranean river. Tourists can rafting along the river to enjoy the scenery. Automatic light and sound control guide system are equipped in the cave. The cave is also accessible by light rail train, boat, and sightseeing elevator.

1. You can take Crown Cave Special Line from Guilin Bus Station, then directly get off the Crown Cave Scenic Area.

(The earliest bus departs at 7:30 from Guilin, and latest bus departs at 17:00 from Crown Cave)

Travel Tips 

1. Recommended duration for a visit is about 3 hours.

2. The best time to visit there is from April to October every year.

3. It is not recommended to visit there during “May 1st” and “October 1st” these two golden vacation weeks. At that time, Guilin with suitable weather will meet a lot of tourists, so the hotel reservation and transportation will be in its climax, the price will be much higher than ordinary times.
