Mount Emei is located in the southwest of Sichuan Basin. It is one of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains in China. It lies 7 kilometers to Emeishan city to the west and 37 kilometers away from Leshan city to the east. Mount Emei together with the Giant Stone Buddha at Leshan Mountain has been included on the list of world cultural and natural heritage by UNESCO in 1996.

Mount Emei has gained world-wide fame for its magnificence, elegance, uniqueness, sacredness, deities and its strong and profound Buddhist culture. In Ming Dynasty, Mount Emei was the domain territory of Emei Family, which was one of the nine noble families of Central Plain area.

The whole Mount Emei is consisted of four large mountains with the highest elevation of 3,099 meters above the sea level at the Wan Fo Peak(万佛峰). Mount Emei has striking beautiful scenery, and is especially famous for its cloudy and foggy sceneries. The changeable cloud and mist pervading in the mountain make Mount Emei more sacred and charming.

Mount Emei is also notable for its rich vegetarian and floral diversity by having a range from subtropical evergreen forests to subalpine pine forests. Since Mount Emei lies in the transitional area at the edge of the Sichuan Basin and the eastern Himalayan highlands, Mount Emei has rich biodiversity with thousands of plant species in hundreds of families. There are many wild and rare Chinese herbal medicines and tea leaves are produced in Mount Emei.

Mount Emei has great values in cultural and historic treasures. There are about 30 temples constructed in Mount Emei which are old and ancient, and have played great role in the development of Buddhism in China. The eight large temples in Mount Emei include Baoguo Temple, Fuhu Temple, Qingyin Pavilion, Hongchunping, Xianfeng Temple, Xixiang Pond, Huacang Temple and Wannian Temple. On the Golden Summit, there stands the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra which is the highest golden Buddhism in the world. These Buddhist architectures on Mount Emei had greatly facilitated the development of Buddhist culture and made it the sacred mountain for the Buddhist activities.
