Introduction to Guangdong Museum (广东省博物馆)

Guangdong Museum is a comprehensive museum located in downtown Guangzhou and also a popular tourist site for Guangzhou tour. The old Guangdong Museum was founded in 1959 with an occupation of 43,000 square meters and a collection of over 160,000 pieces of relics. The new Guangdong Museum which is located in Zhujiang New Town was opened in 2010.

The new Guangdong Museum covers an area of 41,027 square meters with construction area of 66,980 square meters and display area of 21,000 square meters. The building of the museum has five floors above the ground and one floor under ground with an exterior outlook of jewel box. The Guangdong Museum has a large and rich collection of relics and exhibits and tourists can get a thorough knowledge of Guangdong history and culture. Collections of ceramics, painting and calligraphy, bronze, wood carvings, Duan inkstone, paleo-biological fossil, etc. can be seen in the museum.

Guangdong Museum is divided into five parts of exhibitions, including Guangdong History and Culture, Chaozou Gilded Woodcarvings, Natural Resources, Ceramics, and Duan Inkstones. With a total number of over 1,500 displays of relics, pictures, oil paintings, sculptures, and models, the Guangdong History and Culture is dedicated to presenting the history of Guangdong province.

Travel Tips 

1. Try to avoid visiting Guangdong Museum during the Golden Week where the crowds and number of visitors will be substantially higher than usual.
