Gubeikou Great Wall Introduction Gubeikou Great Wall is located in Miyun County 125 kilometers from Beijing and is the only well preserved section of the Great Wall that has not been restored. The Gubeikou wall is 20 kilometers in length with 143 beacon towers. Gubeikou was first constructed in the Northern Qi Dynasty and the main section of Gubeikou was extended in the Ming Dynasty under the orders of General Xu Da. The Gubeikou Great Wall was an important military pass to the capital and vital passageway during the Ming Dynasty. Gubeikou is makes up of four sections of the Great Wall known as: Wohushan, Panlongshan, Simatai and Jinshanling. Gubeikou Great Wall cuts off the Yanshan Mountain Range that runs from the east to the west. Wohushan (Crouching Tiger Mountain) is located in the western section of Gubeikou and Panlongshan is situated in the central section. |

Transportation Take a bus from Dongzhimen bus station of Miyun County, upon arrival at Miyun County take a minibus to Gubeikou. However, please be sure to board a state run minibus instead of the privately owned minibuses which are not safe. |

Travel Tips Gubeikou is considered as part of the Wild Great Wall there are no hiking aids or cable cars available. The hiking surface is uneven and hiking with a partner is highly recommended. Hiking under extreme weather conditions is not recommended. |
