Introduction to Hongze Lake (洪泽湖) Hongze Lake is the fourth largest lake in China, on the border between Jiangsu and Anhui provinces. Hongze Lake is less popular than Tai Lake though both of them are on the list of five great lakes in China. However, it is connected to the Huaihe River, Yangzte River and flows towards the Yellow Sea. It guarantees the water-supply for the agriculture and people’s lives. In 1680, the Yellow River changed its course and merged with the Huai River resulting the block of the Huai River from the heavy sediment of the Yellow River. The diverted water created Hongze Lake as we know it today. Lake Hongze has quadrupled in size since the 12th century. |
