Introduction to Jade Buddha Temple

The Jade Buddha Temple also known as the Yu Fo Si Temple was founded in 1882. The original Jade Buddha Temple was destroyed during the Qing revolution and the temple which is seen today was the reconstruction built in 1928. The temple is a top shanghai tourist attraction due to its two magnificent white Jade Burmese Buddha statues. The Jade Buddha Temple has three main halls linked by the two courtyards. The first hall is the Chamber of Four Heavenly Kings, which also contains the statues of the Maitreya, Wei Tuo Bodhisattva. 

The second hall is the Great Hall which contains many statues such as the Three Golden Buddha statues, Gods of the Twenty Heavens and 18 unique golden Arhats. The third hall is the Jade Buddha Chamber which contains a large statue of a reclining Jade Buddha on the second floor. Upstairs there is another statue of a seated Buddha which has encrusted jewels.
