Introduction to Lou Kau Mansion (卢家大屋)
Lou Kau Mansion (Casa de Lou Kau) once belonged to the famous Lou Kau who was once known as the “King of Gambling” in Macau. The mansion is believed to have been built in 1889 and is a two-storey traditional courtyard house (Siheyuan) exhibiting Xiguan architecture. The mansion was enlisted as a UNESCO Heritage site in 2005. Taking a tour of the mansion it is evident that the architecture has incorporated western design elements. The stained glass Manzhou windows, suspended ceilings and iron railings are all considered western design elements. |
