Introduction to Lujizui (陆家嘴)

Lujiazui is located in Pudong District of Shanghai and has been the financial center of the city since the early 1990s. It’s strategic positioning along the east bank of the Huangpu River and is opposite the old financial area of The Bund. Before Lujiazui was transformed into the financial center of Shanghai it was once an area filled with warehouses, factories and residential houses. It was not until 1992 Lujiazui was declared an investment zone and state owned financial companies began investing in the area and with the Oriental TV Tower completed in 1994 the area became of great significance.

Today there are over 30 buildings in the area that exceed 25 stories and a staggering 504 financial and insurance institutions gathered in this area. Over the years the landscape scene of Lujiazui has become one of the most iconic images associated with Shanghai. The skyline which is lit up with some of the largest buildings and with some of the most luxurious hotels in the area Lujiazui has certainly increased Shanghai tourism. The major buildings of Lujiazui are Oriental Pearl Tower, Jin Mao Building, Shanghai World Financial Center and Super Brand Mall.
