Introduction to Maoling Mausoleum

Maoling Mausoleum is the tomb of Emperor Wu of Western Han (156 – 87 BC). As the largest tomb of all the tombs built during Han Dynasty and with its rich funeral objects, Maoling Mausoleum is called the "Chinese Pyramid"

Maoling Mausoleum is located 40 kilometers from Xian. It took 53 years and cost a third of the taxes during that historical period to complete the construction of the mausoleum. Built into a rather square shape, the mausoleum with surrounded by walls in in four directions and each wall has a gate in the center.

Around the Maoling Mausoleum there are many smaller tombs accompanying it. Most of them are tombs of Emperor Wu’s court, such as his empress, concubine, and his famous military strategist Huo Qubing and Wei Qin.

Maoling has rich burial objects from its time and there built the Maoling Museum which is located about one kilometers from the mausoleum. The museum houses more than 4,100 cultural objects excavated from the mausoleum as well as a large group of stone inscriptions. By visiting the Maoling Museum, tourists can get to know the glorious history and culture of the Han Dynasty. Also the majesty architectures of the Maoling Mausoleum that hold great historical and cultural value really worth seeing.

Transportation 

1. The easiest way to reach Maoling Mausoleum is to take a bus from Xian West Bus Station to Xianyang. Once you arrive in Xianyang take a taxi to Maoling Mausoleum.

Travel Tips 

1. Avoid visiting during school holidays and Golden Week in October as there will be large numbers of local tourists.
