Pingyao Ancient City wall

 Jinzhong Attractions

Pingyao Ancient City wall is one of the three kinds of treasures in Pinagyao. It was originally built using rammed earth, and was rebuilt with bricks in 1370 during the reign of Emperor Hong Wu of the Ming Dynasty. It is about six kilometers long, with 3000 crenels and 72 watching towers, which, allegedly, signifies the 3,000 disciples of the master and 72 saints. In the later period of the Qing Dynasty, the Kuixing Pavilion was built on the southeast section of the wall, and became a symbol of the flourishing culture of the ancient city. Despite 600 years of wind and rain erosion, the wall still looks as grand and majestic.
