Introduction to Senado Square (议事亭前地)

Senado Square is a famous tourist spot in Macau and it is a must-see attraction when on a Macau tour. The Senado Square is situated in the heart of Macau’s historic district and occupies an area of 3,700 square meters, being one of the four largest squares in Macau. Today it is a popular square for public occasions and celebrations in Macau.

Being part of the Historic Center of Macau, the Senado Square was listed on the UNESCO’s World Heritage. The square has a long history since the Ming Dynasty and it was used to review the troops of the inaugurations by the authorities during the Portuguese control.

The Senoda Square attracts tourists for its exotic characteristics. There are many ancient buildings from the colonial age that are of unique western styles lining along the square, which makes the square a great place to know the unique history and mixed culture of Macau. Also the square is paved with wavy and mosaic patterned yellow and black cobblestones, making it a popular place for photography in Macau. What’s more, there are many shops and restaurants around the square where tourists can shop souvenirs and taste local snacks.
