Introduction to Shengjin Tower

Shengjin Tower (Rope and Gold Pagoda) is a late-Tang-era structure measuring 58.7m in height with a perimeter of 33.8m. This 7-store attic tower stands on the east side of Shengjinta Street, Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. It earns the name, Rope and Gold Pagoda, from the legend that four sets of golden rope were discovered under the pagoda by a monk.

The whole pagoda is octahedral with copper top in the shape of a pear. Different layers are spaced by eaves paved with azure bricks. On each layer stands four real gates and 4 fake gates. Ascending the layers, decoration on doors varies - moon-shaped on the the first layer, propitous-cloud-shaped patterns on 2nd and 3rd, while flame-shape patterns from 4th to 7th layer.

A spiral staircase rises inside the pagoda from ground up to reach to the pear-shaped copper. The interior of the pagoda is ornamented with gold-glided copper stripes.
