Yuelu Mountain

 Changsha Attractions

located in the western suburbs of Changsha,Yuelu Mountain is one of seventy-two mountains in the Heng Mountain area. It's one of famous Changsha attractions, and home to 977 plant species, including several thousand-year-old yew podocarpus, ginkgo and lisong trees. When autumn comes, the maples turn red and tangerine trees bear fruit, making the Yuelu Mountain beautiful and become a picturesque. 

on the east side of Yunlu Peak is the Monument to King Yu. It was carved in the Song Dynasty and is now a symbol of ancient culture of Changsha scenic spots. The renowned Yuelu Academy is also located at the foot of the Yuelu mountain. Many visionaries of the 1911 revolution are buried on Yuelu Mountain. The spirit of their achievements now rests within the mountain.

Main Scenic Spots in Yuelu Mountain

Aiwan Pavilion
Located at the foot of Yuelu Mountain,the original name of Aiwan Pavilion was Hongye Pavilion. This pavilion was built during the reign of Emperor Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty and got its name from the poem by Du Mu. The Pavilion is elegant and of primitive simplicity.It faces to the east and is surrounded by hills on the other three sides. 

Lushan Temple
Lushan Temple is renowned as the "first key point of interest from Han and Wei Dynasties", "the most sacred temple in Hunan province".Located at the ancient forest of Yuelu Mountain,Lushan Temple was built in Western Jin Dynasty. As one of the most ancient temples in Hunan Province,it enjoys great fame in the region.

Yunlu Palace
Yunlu Palace is a Taoist place. Yunlu Palace was built in A.D.1478.The history of Taoist activities in Yuelu Mountain is quite long. Yuelu Mountain has been an active center since then.

The Flying Clock and Flying Stone
The Flying Clock hangs in a ginkgo tree near Yunlu Palace. Flying Stone lies under the Flying Clock. The Flying Clock and Flying Stone are also famous attractions in Yuelu Mountain.

The King Yu Tablet
Under the Tablet is Yuji Brook. Yu was an ancient hero who conquered floods.
On the Tablet there was carved an article with 77 Chinese characters, now difficult to distinguish.

Monument to King Yu
Standing on the purple rock wall of the peak of Yuelu Mountain,facing east,The Monument to King Yu records the story of King Yu fighting against the flood.

According to legend, he did not listen to music in seven years and did not go home even having passed by his house for three times. After his father was sentenced to death for failed to protect people from flood, King Yu continued his father's tough task.There are 10 monuments of King Yu in China, it is said that all those are the duplication of the monument in Yuelu Mountain.
