Suzhou Weather and Climate

Suzhou is located in the lower reach of the Yangtze River, belonging to the monsoon ocean climate zone. Suzhou's weather has four distinctive seasons with abundant rainfall. Summers are hot and humid, while winters are cold and damp.

In Suzhou, the hottest month is July, with an average temperature at 28ºC (82ºF), while the coldest month is January, with an average temperature at 4ºC (39ºF).

The average yearly precipitation is about 1100 mm (43 inches), and the "plum rain season" is from June to July, characterized by gloomy and rainy weather.

In winter it rarely snows, but it still feels cold with the dampness. The best times for traveling in Suzhou are spring and autumn.

It's best to visit Suzhou between January and April because the temperature is not too low and the flowers are in full bloom till June. The Plum Rain Season of June is followed by a hot July. Overall the Suzhou climate is bearable and is suitable to visit throughout the year.
