Zhangjiajie Weather and Climate
Zhangjiajie has a humid subtropical monsoon climate. Featured with distinct four seasons, Zhangjiajie has an annual average temperature of 16℃ and annual average rainfall of 1400mm. July is the hottest month in Zhangjiajie and it has an average temperature of 27℃, while January is the coldest month with an average temperature of 4.3℃. As Zhangjiajie is located in mountainous area and the average altitude can vary from 180 meters to 1,000 meters, the temperature difference between day and night can be as large as 10℃.
Spring is from March to May. The average temperature in Zhangjiajie in spring is 18℃. It is not very cold, but jacket and jeans are suggested for tourists traveling to Zhangjiajie in spring. April is the best time for photography in Zhangjiajie when the forests there are fresh and mystic misty after rains.
Summers can be quite hot in Zhangjiajie. The hottest month fall in July with an average temperature of 27℃. But nights can be cool during summer in Zhangjiajie. The Wulinyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area with gorgeous national park full of verdant forests, peculiar stones and caves are great places to avoid the summer heat due to the large volume of oxygen it releases.
Autumn in Zhangjiajie is either too hot or cold and has less rains, thus it is the best time to travel to Zhangjiajie. For tourists wanting to enjoy the spectacles of the forest parks do not have to worry, as most of them are evergreen. There are also places to see the charming fall foliage in Zhangjiajie, Wolongling in Tianzi Mountain and Taozi Village are recommended.
Zhangjiajie has an average temperature of 20℃ during the autumn, it is suggest to wear light jacket and trousers.
Winter is the low season for tourism in Zhangjiajie as it is cold and sometimes windy. The average temperature in Zhangjiajie during the winter is 4℃, so bring warm and windproof clothes.
Though cold, but the snow scenery in the scenic areas can be very intriguing. Spring Festival would be a great time to enjoy the wonderful winter scenery in Zhangjiajie.
Best time to visit Zhangjiajie
April to October is the best time to visit Zhangjiajie. It is advised to avoid the public holidays of the Labor Day on 1 May to 7 May and the National Day in 1 October to 7 October when there would be many Chinese tourists visiting Zhangjiajie and the neighboring Fenghuang Ancient Town.
