How to get to Macau

From Hong Kong

The most convenient and practical way to get to Macau from Hong Kong is by taking the ferry. You can catch a ferry from Shun Tak Center in Sheung Wan (Hong Kong Island) or you also have the option of taking a ferry from the Chinese Ferry Terminal located at Tsim Sha Tsui (Kowloon). Travelers will find that there are numerous jetfoils, Catramarans and ferries available, all of which are operated by TurboJet and Cotai Strip CotaiJet.

Shun Tak Center is the main sea terminal and heliport located on Hong Kong Island. It is located directly above Shueng Wan MTR Station.Travelling to Macau from Kowloon in Hong Kong is convenient with the China Ferry Terminal being located along the waterfront of Harbour City in Tsim Sha Tsui.

The journey takes about one hour from Hong Kong Island to Macau. The ferry operates at 7:00AM until 12:00PM at night with ferries running every 15 minutes. For tourists taking a ferry ride from Kowloon to Macau the journey takes about 70 minutes. The ferry services operate at 7:00AM until 12:00PM with ferries running every 30 minutes.

The CotaiJet runs a direct ferry service between Hong Kong Island and Taipa Island in Macau. The ferry journey takes approximately one hour between Hong Kong and Taipa Island and vice versa. For tourists travelling from Kowloon there are ferries running every hour with the journey taking approximately 70 minutes.

From Hong Kong Airport

Travelers can transit into Macau via Hong Kong International Airport without having to go through customs and immigration. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes with 6 ferries sailing to Macau each day. This service is for transit passengers only, passengers who are not transiting via Hong Kong International Airport cannot use this service.

The CotaiJet runs 3 ferries between Hong Kong International Airport and Taipa Island in Macau each day. This service is for transit passengers only, passengers who are not transiting via Hong Kong International Airport cannot use this service. The CotaiJet offers Cotai First and Cotai Class seats to suit travelers’ needs. The ferry journey takes approximately 50 minutes between Hong Kong International Airport and Taipa Island and vice versa.

From Shenzhen

For tourists wanting a speedy and convenient transport between Macau and Shenzhen by air can go ahead with Sky Shuttle Helicopters Limited. The Sky Shuttle provides helicopter service between Macau Ferry Terminal and Shenzhen Baoan International Airport. It only takes about 15 minutes at day and 25 minutes at night.

There are companies that operate ships between Macau and Shenzhen. Ferry service between Taipa Temporary Ferry Terminal, Taipa Temporary Ferry Terminal of Macau and Shekou of Shenzhen is provided by Yuet Tung Shipping Company and TurboJET. The journey takes about one hour The TurboJET also offers ferry service between Macau Taipa Ferry Terminal and Fuyong Ferry Terminal of Shenzhen Airport. The journey takes about one hour.

From Mainland China

For tourists intending to arrive at Macau by land there are two available gateways, the Barrier Gate on Zhuhai and the COTAI Frontier Post on Taipa. The Gongbei Border and Hengqin Post at Zhuhai are the two checkpoints to enter Macau. People can take air-conditioned buses from Guangzhou, Dongguan or Shenzhen to arrive at Gongbei Bus Station and entering Macau from Gongbei Border.

To arrive at Macau from mainland China, people can start with Jiangmen which is a city located south-central of Guangdong Province. CKS has daily boats running between Jiangmen and the Macau Inner Harbor Terminal. The Wanzai at Zhuhai is the other option to Macau from mainland China. Yuet Tung Shipping Company runs boats between the Macau Inner Harbor Terminal and Wanzai Customs Port in Zhuhai. The journey only takes about 10 minutes.
