Shopping in Wuxi

Wuxi is a productive place with abundant aquatic products, the most popular of which are Lake Tai’s silver fish, white shrimp and white fish. Huishan clay figurines are one of the most famous folk arts in China with succinct design, bright colors and a vivid appearance. It is said that once people pick up the beautiful figures, they can’t put them down.

Lake Tai also produces pearls that are available in many department stores and can be worn as jewelry or used as medicine. Yixing Zisha teapots, well known in China and abroad, are also available in Wuxi. Special Wuxi food products also include sanfengqiao soy sauce spare ribs and Wuxi honey peaches. Wuxi has many big shopping centers that can fulfill a visitor’s every need. They include Wuxi Yaohan, Sanyang Parkson Plaza, New World Department Store and Commercial Building, and shopping streets like Zhongshan Road, Jiangkang Road, Qingshi Road and the pedestrian street near Nanchan Temple.

Zhongshan Lu Commercial Street
Integrating shopping, entertainment and restaurants of all types, this commercial center is flanked by hundreds of stores, including a number of brand name ones. Also along here are no less than seven massive department stores, all carrying a very wide range of pricey goods.

Renmin Zhonglu
A long commercial street that bisects the city center, it is a flourishing shopping district in Wuxi. Specializing in clothing and other goods, it is touted as a ‘representative commercial street’ in Wuxi.

Jiankang Lu Leisure Clothes Street
Running from Fuxing Lu in the north to Jiefang Nanlu in the south, you can find a number of shops on this so called ‘street of clothes’, which is always busy, and attracts a younger crowd.

Xueqian Jie Computer and Culture Street
Xueqian Jie extends from Jiefang Nanlu in the west to Zhongshan Lu in the east, and is easily accessible by public transit. Though not particularly long, there are always crowds of shoppers here, heading for the multiple computer and peripheral shops that line both sides of the street.
