Baishi Qiang Village

Baishi Qiang Village is situated in Ganqing Village, Maoxian County of Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of Aba in Sichuan Province. Baishi Qiang Village, as one of the famous Qiang villages in Sichuan Province, has attracted a lot of tourists by its thick and sacred Qiang cultures and folk customs.

Actually Baishi Qiang Village was seriously destroyed by Wenchuan Earthquake in 2008, now the village is a newly-built settlement for Qiang people. Ruins caused by the earthquake have gone, all you see is a new village full of imprints of Qiang culture. When come to the gate of Baishi Qiang Village, you will see there is a big sheep head hanging on the gate as Qiang people consider sheep as a mascot for their ethnic. And when you walk through in Baishi Qiang Village, you will find there are white stones here and there. Qiang people regard white stones as their god as legend said ancestors of Qiang people were rescued against their enemies by three white stones dropped by the Goddess. This is why you see Qiang people worship white stones in mountains, forests, roofs, windows and indoors. Also you will see bright lights reflected from piles of holy white stones in the village.

Buildings of Baishi Qiang Village are of strong Qiang customs. Pictures and totems of Qiang style are seen in the walls and pillars. Those primitive symbols seem ancient, but that's exactly an important part of Qiang cultures. Girls dressing beautiful and colorful Qiang costumes and hairdressings walking through the street become another view of the village. By the way, do not miss those exquisite embroiders handmade by Qiang people.
