Introduction to Orange Island (长沙橘子洲)
Orange Island is known as Orange Sandbar in Chinese. It is one of the sandbars located in the lower reaches of the Xiang River, covering a total area of 70hm square. Orange Island faces Yuelu Mountain to the west and borders Changsha city to the east. It is surrounded by water on all sides and stretches 16 kilometers long.
As a long and narrow island in the Xiangjiang River, the Orange Island Park is the place where the ancient people appreciated "Snow by River at Dusk". It is one of the "Eight Grand Sights in Hunan". In 1952, Mao Zedong revisited Orange Island and wrote the poem Qin Yuan Chun. Since then, Orange Island has enjoyed a great reputation. Thousands of orange trees are planted in the middle of the Orange Island with rich fruits in autumn, and there is a plain beach by the side of the island, which is a natural swimming place for the visitors in summer. In the rear of the Orange Island is a natural swimming pool with clear water and white sands. |
