Introduction to Jiefangbei Walking Street (解放碑步行街)

Jiefangbei Walking Street is one of Chongqing's main commercial zones. There are five main shopping centers in Chongqing, including Jiefangbei, Shapingba, Three Gorges Square, Yangjiaping, Guanyinqiao and Nanping pedestrian street.

Jiefangbei is the commercial heart of Yuzhong District in Chongqing. Jiefangbei Center Shopping Plaza is the largest shopping center in western China. Chongqing Department Store, Chongqing Shangshe, Carrefour, Da Du Hui, and the Heping Pharmacy head office make it a breeze to find what you’re looking for.More than 110 financial organizations and 25 of the world’s top 500 firms also have offices in this region.

Jiefangbei Center Shopping Mall is not only the gold trade section of the upper reaches of Yangtze River, but also the largest commercial walking street area in the western China. The commercial outlets are dense, and large shopping malls are rare in other areas of the same scale. You can never find other places with so strong commercial atmosphere in the nation except Jiefangbei Center Shopping Mall. It was completed at the date of March 12, 1940, the anniversary date when Dr. Sun Yat-sen passed away.

Chongqing People's Liberation Monument
In the center of Jiefangbei Walking Street, there is a Chongqing People's Liberation Monument. With the monument as its center, the shopping area is cross-shaped walking streets. 

Chongqing People's Liberation Monument is regarded as the commercial center of the Yuzhong District in Chongqing. There are a lot of stores, bookstores, theaters, bars, and hotels around it. The largest snacks street of Chongqing city is 300 meters away from here. Tourists can experience the local customs of Bayu culture, enjoy local food and buy various kinds of souvenirs. Chongqing People's Liberation Monument is the largest pedestrian street in the western China. So it's called "the first street in the west of China".

Chongqing People's Liberation Monument is located in the crossing of the Mingzhu, Mingquan and Zourong Road in the Yuzhong district. It's 27.5 meters high. There is a revolving ladder, through which travelers can get to the top of the monument. Formerly a wooden structure, the monument was firstly built up on March 12th, 1940. This day is the anniversary of Dr. Sun Yatsen's death, so the monument is called "Spirit Fort". It was rebuilt in 1945 to mark the victory of anti-Japanese war, with the name of "Monument to the Victory of Anti-Japanese War". In 1950, Liu Bocheng renamed it "Chongqing People's Liberation Monument".
