Located at the foot of Cangshan Mountain in Yunnan Province, 300 kilometres northwest of Kunming, Dali City is the economic and cultural center of the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture. The area is surrounded by mountains and the Erhai Lake is in its center.Nowdays Dali has been a city combining history with modern times. It is divided into two areas- the Ancient City and the New District.

The Ancient City is centered around the ancient city of Dali, first built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).The ancient city of Dali is one of Yunnan's most popular tourist destinations.There are many tourist attractions in dali China.It’s the perfect place to take a break from the rest of China and just relax. Dali, along with Yangshuo near Guilin, is one of China's backpacker's paradises.

It has historic sites, ancient buildings and temples, nearby beautiful Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake. The street is popular with both foreigners and Chinese. It is known as a backpackers’ haven. Many people travel in dali china.

Cangshan Mountain is a great, scenic hiking area and a natural reserve. Erhai Lake is to the east and Cangshan Mountain is to the west. Tourists visiting the area can see temples and architecture 1000 years old, buy beautiful souvenirs and objects of art, learn about the history of the area and of the native peoples, and go on excursions to the nearby lake and mountain.

Xiaguan, located to the south of the Ancient City, home to the government of the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture. Here you will find 25 ethnic minorities, which have created a unique cultural heritage amidst the area's picturesque surroundings.Many Bai people live in Dali. They have the second largest population in Yunnan Province. Even in present days, they still keep ancient Bai people customs. It’s great to learn some cultures and customs here about them.

Foreigner Street
The original name for Foreigner Street is Huguo Road, which is 1 kilometers long and 7 meters wide, covered with stone slabs. The "Foreigners' Street" has Western-style restaurants and bars with English-speaking business owners.With the development of tourism, you'll find unrestricted rest and relaxation, plenty of budget hostels, inexpensive western food, and friendly local people.several dozens of cafes, western style restaurants, and clothes shops offering services to foreign guests here. Nowadays, the street becomes the distribution center for foreign visitors.

How to get there:
The ancient town is about 12km from Xiaguan and the most common way to reach Dali ancient City is by bus.

The No.4 bus leaves from the area opposite the Dali Hotel on the intersection of Jianshe Lu and Renmin Lu in Xiaguan, running from 6:30am-8pm and takes about 40 minutes for RMB1.2.

The No.8 bus leaves from the Xiaguan railway station and takes 40 minutes and costs RMB1.5 (buses stop running before 8pm.)

Perhaps the most convenient means of transport is by minibus from the intersection of Jianshe Lu and Wenhua Lu in Xiaguan. The cost is RMB1.5 and the trip takes 30 minutes. Minibuses do not have set hours of operation, but they continue to run later than other public buses.
