Introduction to Gejia Village (麻塘革家寨) The Matang Village is situated approximately 18 kilometers from Kaili and is home to the Gejia minority group who are classified as a subgroup of the Miao minority. The Gejia people have their own spoken dialect and dress differently from that of the Miao. There is an estimated 400 Gejia villagers in Matang. There is not much known about the minority group apart from that they specialize in Gejia Batiks a traditional form of dyeing textiles. The Gejia women are taught at the age of 5 how to make Batiks and embroidery. On the day of their wedding the brides wear their own handmade batiks costume. The Gejia minority is particularly fond of brightly colored clothing and similar to the Miao minority they also wear silverware.
