The Museum of the Mausoleum of the Nanyue King
The Museum of the Mausoleum of the Nanyue King is based on the tomb site of the second Nanyue King, Zhao Mei, who was the second ruler of the Nanyue State of the Western Han Dynasty (260 B.C – 24 A.D.). The tomb of the Nanyue King was discovered in 1983 and the museum of the tomb site was opened in 1988. Named a Major National Historical Site in 1996, the Museum of the Mausoleum of the Nanyue King is reputed for its rare collections of funerary artifacts and cultural relics representing the diffusion of cultures in Lingnan area of Nanyue during the Han Dynasty.
As the oldest and largest Han tomb with the most funerary objects in Lingnan areain South China, the Museum of the Mausoleum of the Nanyue King covers an area of 14,000 square meters with 10 exhibition halls and more than 10 thousand relics.
Among the more than 1,000 funeral objects unearthed most of them are jade articles and bronze vessels. Jade works made for ceremonies, funerals, decorations, and practical usage in more than 200 varieties are found among the burial artifacts. While the jade-silk garment which is made up of 2,291 pieces of jade is the most outstanding object. Also the collection of ceramic pillows from the tomb is one of the amazing ones in ancient kilns.
The complex of the museum is consisted of three construction of the tomb, the Comprehensive Exhibition Building and the Main Exhibition Building. As a perfection combination of the essence of the Chinese culture and modern architecture and it has won several awards for its building style. Now the Museum of the Mausoleum of Nanyue King has become an important educational place to learn the history of Guangzhou and also a popular historical site to see for Guangzhou tour.

1. Take Bus No. 7, 29, 33, 203, 211, 273, 552 or 543 and get off at Jiefang Beilu stop;
2. Take Bus No. 21, 108, 110, 519, 528, 555 or 556 and get off at Yuexiu Park stop;
3. Take Subway Line 2 and get off at Yuexiu Park station, and exit from Exit E.
