Introduction to Po Lin Monastery(宝莲寺)

Po Lin Monastery has over 100 years of history in Hong Kong and was first established by three Buddhist Monks in 1906. Po Lin Monastery is situated on the Ngong Ping plateau and is popular with tourists who are also visiting Tian Tan Buddha. The peaceful and tranquil environment is very enjoyable for those who need a quiet getaway from the busy city. Taking your time to wander around the different halls and buildings within Po Lin Monastery you will find that there are numerous statues of Buddhist figures and gods. Over the years the development of Po Lin Monastery has transformed the monastery into a world famous Buddhist establishment.

Over the course of its development, the monastery has now grown to become a world-renowned Buddhist establishment, boasting many prominent architectural structures, such as the Main Shrine Hall of Buddha, the Hall of Bodhisattva Skanda, and of course the Tian Tan Buddha, which sits opposite the Monastery. A new addition to this Buddhist complex will be the Grand Hall of Ten Thousand Buddhas, which will house ten thousand statues as well as a Scripture Library and a Dharma Hall.

Apart from the traditional Buddhist architecture and culture that surrounds Po Lin Monastery there is also a delicious vegetarian restaurant which also attracts many visitors. All food served is strictly vegetarian and contains no spices or extra flavorings. You also have the choice of dining indoors or outdoors, choosing to eat outdoors is always pleasant with the great scenery.
