Introduction to Samye Monastery (桑耶寺)
The Samye Monastery, built during the Reigns of the Trisong Detsen in the 8th Century, was recording as the first monastery in Tibet featuring Buddhist, laws and monks, where the famous debate of doctrines between ancient Indian Buddhism and inland Buddhism happened.

Opening Hours: 9:00AM - 4:00PM
From Lhasa to the monastery, take a bus for Samye Crossing (duko in Chinese) departing at 7:30AM lasting for 3.5 hours. Followed is a ride in a open, flat-bottomed boat (1hr) or a tractor (40 mins) for the last leg of the journey.
Leaving the monastery for Lhasa: take buses (6 hrs) via Tsetang at 8:30AM.
