Introduction to Peace Hotel (和平饭店)
Peace Hotel has been a famous landmark of Shanghai for decades with its prime location along The Bund. The hotel has been known for its gothic architecture and its composition of eastern and western designs. Peace hotel was divided into the South Building and North Building. Building of the north building began in 1926 and was named Sassoon House after its owner, Sir Victor Sassoon. The hotel was opened on September 5, 1929 it was then known as Cathay Hotel where floors four to nine were the hotel. In 1992, Peace Hotel was listed as one of the famous hotels of the world by the World Hotel Association. It remains the only hotel in China to have received this recognition. |
