Introduction to Du Fu Thatched Cottage (杜甫草堂) Du Fu Thatched Cottage is one of the most popular historical sites in Chengdu. As the name suggests, the cottage is dedicated to commemorate Du Fu, a famous poet in Chinese literature. Du Fu Thatched Cottage is located in the western outskirts of Chengdu at the bank of Huanhua Brook. The cottage was constructed on the site where Du Fu built his thatched hut when he fled to Chengdu in 764 and lived there for four years. the Du Fu Thatched Cottage is a park and museum covering 24 hectares, and it is a national heritage site. This site preserved the styles from Qing Dynasty with quiet and exquisite classic Chinese traditional gardens, dynamic plum trees and bamboos, interwoven bridges and pavilions, and fantastic architectures with strong cultural atmosphere. The entire thatched cottage has a style of simplicity and elegance. It consists of several architectures and the three majors are Gong Bu Memorial Hall, the Thatched Cottage of Du Fu, and the Hall of Great Poets. |
