Introduction to The Bund

The Bund is one of the symbols of Shanghai which is located along the Huangpu River. The Bund refers to the buildings and wharves on this section of the road, as well as those located in the areas nearby. It is one of top 10 shanghai tourist attractions. It has been said if you have not been to The Bund, you have not been to Shanghai.

The Bund is home to some of the most historical buildings, it was once the location for many banks and trading houses from all over the world. To begin with the area was originally a British settlement then later developed into an international area of residency. By the 1940s The Bund was the home to the four biggest financial institutions and was China’s financial hub. Some of the most notable buildings along The Bund are: Peace Hotel, HSBC Building, Astor House Hotel and Bank of China Building.

The different architectural styles of The Bund vary vastly due to its once international residency. Building styles vary from Europe to Asia. The skyline night view of The Bund will have you captivated by the incomparable view of these buildings that line across the Huangpu River. The Bund stretches one mile along the bank of the Huangpu River. Traditionally, The Bund begins at Yan'an Road (formerly known as Edward VII Avenue) in the south and ends at Waibaidu Bridge (formerly Garden Bridge) in the north and crosses Suzhou Creek.
