Introduction to Xian Muslim Street

Muslim Street, also known as Huimin Street or Muslim Quarter, is a famous and popular tourist spot to experience the authentic Muslim culture and try various delicious Muslim food and snacks in Xian. The Muslim Street is a Muslim community located in the north of the West Street in the city center of Xian. It is consisted of blocks of Beiyuanmen Street, North Guangji Street, Xiyangshi Street and Dapiyuan Street.

The antique style architectures and authentic religious Muslim lifestyle are what to see and experience at the Muslim Street. There are about 2,000 Muslims living in this community, and they still keep their pristine religious traditions and lifestyle. Architectures and houses along the streets which are built in the style of Ming and Qing dynasties present ancient and leisure atmosphere. Many ancient courtyards and some 10 mosques built in different times are also found in the Muslim Street. The Gao Family Courtyard in the Muslim Street is the most popular ancient residence where traditional puppet shows or shadow plays can be enjoyed in the afternoon.

However, the Muslim Street is much more reputed as a “snack street” as there are rich delicious local Xian and Shaanxi food and snacks which attract tourists from home and abroad. There are many old and famous restaurants, and stalls in the Muslim Street providing various kinds of tasty delicacies and snacks. The most famous dishes that should not be missed out including Roujiamo, Pita Brea Soaked in Lamb Soup, dumplings, cold noodles, Glutinous Rice with Jujube, Juicy bun, Osmanthus cakes, and so on. With so many fantastic food, the Muslim Street also become a great spot to experience the vibrant nightlife of Xian.

1. You can take bus No.4, 7, 15, 32, 43, 45, 201, 205, 206, 215, 218, 221, 222, 251, 300, 604, 611, 612 and K630, then get off at the Bell Tower Stop, then walk torwards the Drum Tower, you can easily find the Muslim Street behind the Drum Tower.

1. Must-try Dishes: Roujiamo (Lamb Stuffed inside a baked bun) and cold noodles.

2. The Muslim Street is near the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower, which are worthy of a visit.
