Introduction to Uighur Ethnic Street (维吾尔民居一条街)
This middle asian style street is located in the Yining Joint part, east to Ahemaitijiang Road, west to Xinhua West Road. It is 750 meters in length, mainly resided by Uyghur nationality. Influenced by the rainny climate and Russian architecture style, roof of the houses in the street are pointed.
The whole street is not so adjusted to tourism. In stead, it is featured tranquility and peace with people residing inside leading a slow life. Houses here are usually 1 to 3 story with a courtyard in a considerable size. In the center of the courtyard located a patio or a mobile weed tent which is usually connected with the gate by a long . The whole courtyard is decorated with flowers, fruiters, and grape vine.The courtyard is the center of Uyghur people's family life, where they spending time with the family and prepare a tea set to welcome visitors. Gorgeous patterns can be seen everywhere from aisle columns, roofs, and ceiling.
Throughout the street, minority ethnic customs have been well preserved. The oldest household there has resided in the street for nearly one century. Their dietary habit, dressing, festivals rituals, and architectual style have been passed on generation to generation.
