Wulingyuan Scenic Area

 Zhangjiajie Attractions

Wulingyuan Scenic Area is situated north of Zhangjiajie and is a popular Zhangjiajie tourist attraction. It's one of the 40 most famous scenic spots in China. The contractible fairyland was admitted to the 'World Heritage List' in 1992.

Wulingyuan is home to the ethnic minorities Tujia and Miao. The terraces and rows of houses along with the Blue Mountains and the flowing green streams make excellent scenery which will linger in your thoughts. Wulingyuan is one of the major scenic spots in Zhangjiajie along with: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Zhangjiajie National Geopark, Suoxiyu, Tianzi mountain, and YangJiajie. Wulingyuan retains its own original ecosystem and there are rare sandstone peak forest landscape, over 3,000 peaks, 800 streams, Karst caves, waterfalls, and natural forests.

The forests cover over 90% of the scenic area with rare species of trees and inhabitation by rare species of birds and animals. There are also streams, brooks, springs, lakes and waterfalls. Zhangjiajie, in particular, is rich in forest resources, featuring both virgin and artificial secondary forests. It is home to some 3,000 species of high-grade plants of which 35 are rare species under state protection. There are also 116 types of animals living in Zhangjiajie.
