Cheung Chau Buntastic Festival!


Cheung Chau’s annual bun festival is here! The festival which is also known as the Cheung Chau Da Jiu Festival, is held on the Cheng Chau Island in Hong Kong. To celebrate the festival residents on the island keep a vegetarian diet for three days. The origin of the festival is said to have begun due to a plague that killed many villagers of Cheung Chau, the story has it that in order to get rid of the plague a portrait of Pak Tai was paraded through the streets and since then the plague was cured. Therefore, each year to commemorate Pak Tai and the end of the plague the festival was held.

The highlights of the festival is the bun scrambling competition, Kung Fu performances, children dressed in fancy costumes, Chinese opera performances and the ceremony at the Pak Tai Temple should not be missed. Each year the festival attractions visitors from all over the world!
