Nanjing Yihe Mansions Gains UNESCO Honor


The conservation efforts of the Yihe Mansions located in Nanjing have recently been recognized by the,2014 UNESCO Asia Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation Program. In 2006 Nanjing Municipal Government began the restoration project of the 26 villas that date back to the China Republican period (1912–49).

The villas’ exterior design exhibits traditional Republican era architecture which is becoming scarce in China due to urbanization. The conservation program has successfully preserved the villas and transformed the interior into elegant hotels with modern designs which still incorporate republican period features.

Nanjing is one of the most important cities in China and was once the capital of China for 6 dynasties. The city is also known as one of the “Four Ancient Capitals of China”. There are many Nanjing attractions including the Yihe Mansions that cannot be missed whilst touring this amazing city.
