Tusi Sites Enlisted as UNESCO Heritage Site


On 4th July 2015, the Tusi Sites of China became the 48th UNESCO Heritage Site of China. The Tusi Sites are located in Southwest China mainly in Hunan, Hubei and Guizhou Province. The three famous Tusi Sites that were inscribed by UNESCO were Laosicheng, Tangya and Hailongtun Fortress. There are 101 Tusi Site in China mostly located in the mountainous areas.

The Tusi sites were once part of the Tusi system which was used to govern the ethnic minorities of China. It is said the system existed for 8 centuries, however the sites are not very well known throughout China
