Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Officially Opens
2018-10-24
The world’s longest sea-crossing bridge linking Hong Kong and Macau to Zhuhai of Southeast China finally opens to traffic on Wednesday, October 24. Chinese President Xi Jingping attended the bridge opening ceremony on Tuesday in Zhuhai, along with top officials from Hong Kong and Macau, and declared the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge officially open.
Construction began in 2009 on the 55-kilometer crossing, which includes a road bridge, underwater tunnel and two artificial islands, connecting Hong Kong and Macau to Zhuhai in Guangdong province. The mega bridge will significantly cut traveling time between the two sides of the Pearl River, helping to achieve the government’s vision of a Greater Bay Area.
