Winter at Beijing Summer Palace

The Summer Palace in Beijing has always been a popular destination amongst tourists visiting China. This winter the palace has been cast over with snow and ice turning the imperial grounds into a winter wonderland. The famous Kunming Lake is completely frozen allowing tourists to ice-skate, sledge and cart over the lake.

Kunming Lake covers approximately 75% of the palace grounds and is representative of the traditional imperial garden design which consists of a pond and three hills. The Summer Palace is hailed as a “masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design” and was added to the UNESCO Heritage List in 1998. For tourists visiting the Summer Palace there are a numerous sights that cannot be missed such as the 17 Arch Bridge, Longevity Hill, The Long Corridor and many more.
