Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City was formerly known as Saigon, the largest city of Vietnam. The lively city is also one of the commercial and economical centers of Vietnam. The population of Ho Chi Minh City is 9 million and accounts for a large proportion of Vietnam’s economy.
Over the years the numbers of visitors to the city have increased substantially with the many museums and French colonial buildings that remain. One of the most famous attractions of the city is Notre-Dame Saigon which was constructed in 1863 for the French colonists. The cathedral was built with materials all imported from France and in 2005 the cathedral attracted many tourists due to claims that the statue of Virgin Mary shed tears.
The Jade Emperor Pagoda is also worth a visit, the pagoda was built in 1909 by the Chinese community. Within there is a collection of 300 statues that are depicted from Buddhist and Taoist myths.
