Shanhaiguan Great Wall

Introduction to Garze Temple (甘孜寺)

Situated on the hill slope of Garze County, Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, Southwest of China, Garze Temple is also called Ganzi Gompa in Tibetan language. Built in 1662 and with a long history of 355 years, Garze Temple is a perfect combination of Han and Tibetan architecture styles. It is home to over 400 monks.

The temple hall consists of four layors including Main Assembly Hall on the first floor, Protect Law God Palace on the second floor, Qiangba Buddha Palace on the third floor and the fourth floor serves the buddhas invited from India. There are many other collections reserved in th temple, such as Buddhist statues, Buddhist scriptures and other old-fashioned muskets. It should be mentioned that there is a Ghost Exorcising Festival in autumn every year, when is the best time to visit the temple.

Travel Tips

1. Recommended duration for a visit is about 2 hours.

2. The weather there changes a lot between day and night, so it is suggested to bring coats even in summer.

3. It is not recommended to visit attractions above during “May 1st” and “October 1st” these two golden vacation weeks. Because at that time, the hotel reservation and transportation around will be in its climax, the price will be much higher than ordinary times.
