Jiankou Great Wall Introduction
The Jiankou Great Wall located in Xizhaizi Village of Huairou District in Beijing is the wildest and most picturesque section of the Great Wall. It is renowned for its breathtaking scenery that is characterized with steep mountains and winding walls.
Jiankou is translated into ‘Arrow Nock’ in English because the mountain where the Great Wall lies shapes like an arrow and its collapsed ridge opening as the arrow nock. The Jiankou Section was built in 1368 during the Ming Dynasty and then it retains its original appearance. It was constructed with grand dolomite which makes the Great Wall firm and easily distinguishable among the mountains. Jiankou is 28 kilometers long and there are 28 towers built.
What attracts people most about Jiankou are its steepness and wild beauty. The main section of Jiankou was built along the winding ridges with precipitous cliffs on each side. In addition with the varied mountains, Jiankou is quite dangerous to climb. But just because of its steepness and exotic scenery, Jiankou is a popular destination for challenging and adventurous hikers. Jiankou Great Wall is also a hotspot for photographers. Photos about the marvelous of Jiankou often appear at magazines and many other books.
The Great Wall of Jiankou Section is situated in Xizhaizi Village, Badaohe County, Huairou District, and is 70 kilometers away from Beijing.

1. Bus route: Take Bus 916 AT Dongzhimen to Huairou Bus Station, then take a local mini bus to Xizhazi Village or charter a car to arrive at Xizhazi Village.
1. It will take 4 to 5 hours to hike from Jiankou Section to Mutianyu Section.
