Introduction to Mausoleum of Genghis Khan (成吉思汗陵)
The Mausoleum of Genghis Khan is a famous historical relic in Inner Mongolia. It is located in Xinjie Town, Ejen Khoruu Banner, Ordos City in Inner Mongolia. The mausoleum is devoted to Genghis Khan, a legendary hero in ancient China who united nomadic tribes in Mongolian prairie and laid the foundation for the unification of China.
Coffins of Genghis Khan’s wives are also in the main palace. For a better understanding of Genghis Khan and his glorious history, there are frescos in the corridor of the main palace, which depict significant events about him. The East Palace laid the coffins of Tolui, Genghis Khan’s fourth son, and his wife. While the West Palace collect nine banners and Su Le Ding which is known as iron spearheads. When traveling to the Mausoleum of Genghis Khan, tourists also have the chances to know the traditional culture and customs of the Mongolian ethnic groups. Riding horses and camels, watching performances, enjoying local food, and joining in the traditional activities of wrestling and arrow shooting, all these activities will bring you great fun. |
