Qinghui Garden

 Foshan Attractions

Located in Shunde District of Foshan City, Qinghui Garden is recognized as one of the four major Qing-Dynasty gardens in Guangdong and is one good reason for you to travel to Foshan, China. Qinghui Garden has profound historical and cultural connotations, and its design reflects the typical Lingnan style of garden construction.

In the late Ming Dynasty, it was the residence of Huang Jun, the top successful candidate in the highest imperial examination. Later it was sold to Long Yingshi, a palace graduate in the Qing Dynasty. In 1880, or the fifth year of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty, Long Yanhuai, son of Long Yingshi and a member of the Imperial Academy, returned to his hometown after resigning his post, and built a garden for his mother at the site of the old residence of Huang Jun.

Later the garden was renovated time and again by Long Yuanren (son of Long Yanhuai), Long Jingcan (grandson of Long Yanhuai), and Long Zhuhui (great Grandson of Long Yanhuai). In 1966 the Shunde District People's Government, in view of the historical, artistic and aesthetic values of the garden, expanded its area from over 7,000 square meters to 22,000 square meters to welcome domestic and foreign tourists.

The Qinghui Garden has a graceful and picturesque environment with limpid waters and green plants, and the former residence of the Longs blends well with the newly built scenic spots. The clean waters, green trees, ancient walls, hollow windows, rock-works, small bridges and winding corridors are combined with the pavilions, kiosks, towers and chambers, forming a pleasant picture.

This garden integrates ancient architectural structures, gardens, carvings, poems, calligraphic works and clay carvings, and shows the characteristics of magnificence, queerness, ruggedness, seclusion, elegance and openness of the garden construction in China.

Inside the Garden, there are clear water and flourishing woods. The water, trees, stone hills, small bridges are blended with booths and pavilions, presenting a kind of distinctive scenery. The flowers, fruit trees and precious artworks are spread everywhere, all of which integrate architecture, garden, sculpture, painting and calligraphy and grey sculpttures that demonstrate the beauty of Chinese ancient gardens.
