Tianjin Municipality, one of the four municipalities in China, is located along the west coast of the Bohai Gulf, the lower reaches of Hai River, facing Shandong and Liaoning provinces across the Bohai Gulf. It borders Yan Mountain to the north, close to Beijing Municipality, and is surrounded by Hebei province in three sides. Tianjin is the largest deepwater harbor in the world.

Geography and climate

Terrain of Tianjin is dominated by plains and depressions. It is high in the northwest where intruded by the Yan Mountains and low in the southeast where are flat plains and swampy coastal areas.

Influenced by the East Asia Monsoon, Tianjin has a typical continental monsoon climate with four distinct seasons of windy springs, humid and hot summers, temperate and cool autumns, dry and cold winters.


Culture in Tianjin is mainly represented by its popular folk arts, especially cross talk. And there four folk custom arts famed in Tianjin, Zhang's clay figurines, Wei's kites, wash paintings and Liu's brick carvings.
