Introduction to Jinsha River (金沙江)

Jinsha River locates upstream of Huanghe River, also called Chin-sha Chiang, Jinsha Jiang or Kinsha Kiang. Starting from the Hengduan Mountainous Region in Yushu County, Qinghai Province. The river flows through the provinces of Yunnan, Tibet and Sichuan. The overall length of the river is 2,316 kilometers and the flowing area is 340,000 square kilometers. 

The water passes through the high mountains and deep valleys and turbulently flows down to the southeast side. So when the water suddenly turns around the north-east side around counties of Shigu, Zizhi in Lijiang, Yunnan Province, shaping the world-known Tiger Leaping Gorge, which is one of the deepest gorges in the world.

1. Recommended duration for a visit is about one day.

2. The weather there changes a lot between day and night, so it is suggested to bring coats even in summer.

3. It is not recommended to visit attractions above during “May 1st” and “October 1st” these two golden vacation weeks. Because at that time, the hotel reservation and transportation around will be in its climax, the price will be much higher than ordinary times.
