Introduction to Longsheng Rice Terraces (龙胜梯田)

Longsheng Rice Terraces, also called the Longji Rice Terraces, are situated in Longsheng County about 100 kilometers from Guilin, Guangxi Province.

The terraced fields were built about 650 years ago in Yuan Dynasty and completed in the early Qing Dynasty. The terraced fields are built along the slope winding up to the mountain top about 800 metres above sea level. Longji means ‘Dragon’s Backbone’ in Chinese because the rice terraces resemble a dragon’s scales and the mountain range looks like the backbone of the dragon. The fields are beautiful in four seasons. In spring when filled with water, the terraces look like silk ribbons. In summer, lushes of rice become green waves. In autumn the rice grows and matures with changing colors. In winter they’re covered with snow.

The terraces have two closely located areas: the PingAn terraced fields inhabited with Zhuang minority and the JinKeng terraced fields inhabited with Yao minority respectively.

Longsheng Rice Terraces attract those who love hiking or outdoor activities to explore every year.
