Introduction to Henan Museum (河南博物馆)

Henan Museum is one of the three major museums in China, and the largest center for the collection, protection, study and display of cultural relics in the hinterland of the Central Plain. In a novel shape, the magnificent main building of the Henan Museum collects more than 130,000 cultural relics, of which more than 40,000 pieces are national treasures of China.

The cultural relics of the pre-history period, the bronzes of the Shang (c. 16th- 11th century B.C.) and Zhou (c. 11th century-221 B.C.), the pottery and porcelain wares of the past dynasties and a great number of rock carvings in the museum are of high academic and artistic value. A square wine container with lotus and crane motif used by the royal family in the Spring and Autumn period (770-476 B.C.) is the most precious treasure of the Henan Museum.
