Haikou The Harbor City

With the sea on three sides, Haikou enjoys a long coastline that features excellent bathing beaches and sea side resorts, and it’s also known as the 'Coconut City'. Holiday Beach is the most popular of these, while Xixiu Beach is where the National sailing and windsurfing teams train and hold competitions. Haikou was originally a port city, even today, more than half of the island's total trade still goes through its ports.

The city features beautiful sunshine, crystal water and soft sand. Holiday Beach is a 7 kilometre-long beach and visitor attraction adjacent to the west side of Haikou.nesses operate from around nine pm to five am every night, which means you can have a good time camping there.

Another noticeable amazing beach is Xixiu Beach. You can often watch the locals windsurfing and jogging. There is not as much activity as at Holiday Beach, but closer to the city center, it’s can be more convenient to get there.

These busiEvergreen Park is a 71.3 hectare park located on Binhai Road about 200 m west of the southern foot of Haikou Century Bridge. It is the largest park in Haikou, containing approximately ten thousand coconut trees and several hundred species of South Asian ornamental plants, however, most of the park consists of grassy fields. Baishamen Park was created in 2010 and is located on the north shore of Haidian Island. The park contains a small amusement park, and consists mostly of grass fields, with little tree cover. Golden Bull Mountain Ridge Park includes a small zoo, a lake, diverse flora, and a high percentage of forest areas, including a large bamboo forest. It is located on Haixiu Road, west of Longquan Road, the main north-south avenue in Haikou.
As for lakes, Hongcheng Lake is one of the largest water bodies in the city being around equal in size to the lake at Golden Bull Mountain Ridge Park. It has three islands, the largest of which contains a defunct hotel. The lake is a popular location for fishermen. At night, hawker stalls are set up along the roadsides for tourists and locals to drink and dine.
No trip is complete without the opportunity to savor tempting local food and shopping opportunities. It goes without saying that for anyone coming to this city, seafood is definitely a must. And night markets will certainly be the best place to have a try. Many streets in Haikou are quite different during the day compared to the evening. Small outdoor restaurants and stalls fill the streets in the evening and many areas are at their busiest from 9.00pm to 1.00am. Explore old city streets, markets and shops in Old Street will be especially funny. Local favorites are BBQ stalls which serve cheap local beer till late.

You will soon notice the abundance of coconut trees within Haikou. Most streets are lined with them. It is greener than most Chinese cities and has decent air quality. They usually comprise several round tables, plastic patio chairs, and a restaurant setup consisting of a display table for the prepared items and a long metal trough used for barbecueing. Most items for sale are prepared on skewers, with tinfoil bags of shellfish also being served. Patrons drink local beer in large bottles. These businesses operate from around nine pm to five am every night.
