Guniujiang Nature Reserve is sitting on the boundary of Qimen and Shitai counties in Anhui Province and neighbors Huangshan Mountains in the east. As one of the three high mountains in the southern part of Anhui Province, with a distance of 22 kilometers to Shitai County, its main peak rises to a height of over 1727.6 meters, occupying an area of 14,821 hectares.

Guniujiang Nature Reserve is a wettish subtropical continental area with a mild and moist climate, abundant rainfall and four distinct seasons. There are pleasant breezes, plenty of sunshine and moderate average temperatures. The air is fresh and humid, the bacteria are few, the anion density of air reached as much as above 2500/cm3.
The environment of air in Guniujiang Nature Reserve is so fresh and clean owing to the large amount of negative ion of oxygen in the air which the content reach about 2500 per cu.cm, which earned it the name of "Natural Oxygen Bar." The forest vegetation in Guniujiang Nature Reserve has the typical characteristics of sub-tropical evergreen broad-leaved forest. As a result, its major objective is the protection of the evergreen broadleaved forest in the mid subtropical zone. The common forest trees include somewhat crooked red gum tree growing chiefly along rivers, masson pine, litsea cubeba that is a unique aromatic plant resource in our country, camphor tree, castanopsis eyrei forest as one of the main forest types in Guniujiang Nature Reserve, cyclobalanopsis glauca and many more. There was a smell of healthy properties of a range of substances from the trees pervading the atmosphere. It is the best suitable place for body-building, science education, scientific research and travelling.
There are countless varieties of biological species, including many precious and rare animals and many rare plants. Depending on incomplete statistics, there're over 500 species of xylophyta like Chinese tulips specially protected under the Central Government, and more than 200 species of higher animals. The very fact of its complex natural conditions, abundant biological resources and well-preserved ecosystems makes it become the germplasm pools for wild fauna and flora conservation in eastern China.
