Beijing and Shanghai 72 Hour Visa Free Policy


On 5th December 2012, the Beijing Municipality announced that from the 1st January 2013, Beijing will have a 72 hour visa free policy which is open to a limited 45 counties. This policy allows foreigners landing in Beijing but destined for other countries, 72 hours to roam around the city without having to apply for a visa, in a move designed to promote the capital's tourism industry. In addition to this Shanghai have extended their visa free stay from 48 hours to 72 hours, travelers who have a valid passport and correct travel documents can land at Pudong Airport or Hongqiao Airport without an entry visa. The 45 countries which these two policies apply to are as follows:

European Schengen Visa Countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Holland, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Other European Countries: Russia, United Kingdom, Ireland, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine.

America: United States of America, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Chile

Oceania: Australia and New Zealand

Asia: Korea, Japan, Singapore, Brunei, The United Arab Emirates and Qatar.
